Fruit Trees

We have about two dozen fruit trees to include apple, pear, grapes, lemon, and of course oranges. The amount of fruit varies seasonally and with the weather and rain but we always seem to have something to enjoy.

Pears

Sadly, we have but one pear tree. But, it produces delicous fruit when in season!

Pomegranate

As summer fades into autumn, the vibrant pomegranate season begins in Alicante, Spain. Starting in late August or early September, early varieties make their debut, bringing a burst of color and flavor to local markets. The season stretches through December, with the beloved Mollar de Elche variety peaking in November and continuing into the winter months. Depending on weather conditions and harvesting practices, you might even find fresh pomegranates lingering into January.

But not all pomegranates are created equal.

If you’ve ever cracked open a pomegranate and found white seeds, you’re not alone—and you’re not looking at an unripe fruit. These pale seeds come from a white pomegranate variety, a natural mutation that reduces the presence of anthocyanins, the pigments responsible for the deep red color in traditional pomegranate seeds.

Far from being a flaw, white seeds are perfectly safe to eat and often surprise with their sweeter, more delicate flavor. Some even carry subtle floral or wine-like notes, making them a unique treat for curious palates. The seed color can also be influenced by environmental factors such as climate, soil minerals, and fertilizer use.

So whether you’re savoring the classic ruby-red Mollar de Elche or discovering the gentle sweetness of white-seeded varieties, Alicante’s pomegranate season offers a delicious journey through one of nature’s most fascinating fruits.

Figs

With three fig trees we have a lot of figs during harvest time which happens twice a year. The “breva” (early crop) is harvested from late May to June and the main crop from mid-July to the end of September.
